A Study on the Seriousness of Late-life Problems and Its Political Tasks by Examining Suicidal Ideation Variable(I)

Abstract
This study was to ascertain the seriousness of the late-life problems on the elderly individual's quality of life by examining the relationships of the late-life problems to suicidal ideation. It was significant to estimate the relative effect of
each
of the late-life problems by examining the effects of the late-life problems on suicidal ideation, an area which has been totally neglected. Further it will help identify "urgent" late-life problems needing immediate attention and suggest the
relevant
policies for the Korean elderly.
According to research findings, except for health, the other four late-life problems (working-role loss, economic insecurity, family relationships, and loneliness) turned out to be significantly related to suicidal ideation. Among them, economic
insecurity and family relations had the very crucial effects on suicidal ideation. Therefore the government should be establishing an economic support program especially in relation to promoting family relationships.
